Child Find Notice - Proportionate Share Meeting

Parentally-placed Private School and Home-Schooled Students - Consultation Notice Last Updated: 9/30/2019 6:37 PM

September 25, 2019

To Whom It May Concern:

The Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) requires that the school system provide information to private school administrators regarding the provision of equitable special education services to parentally placed private school students with disabilities. Home-schooled children with disabilities are considered in the same category and are also eligible for services under this provision. Parentally-placed students with disabilities in private schools or home-schooled students are not entitled to a free appropriate public education (FAPE),   but the district will provide services based on a proportionate share of federal funds.

To plan accordingly for the 2019-2020 school year, Pierce County Schools would like to meet with representatives of private schools or home schools located in Pierce County on October 4, 2019 at 10 am at the Pierce County Board of Education located at   834 Main Street.

The following topics will be discussed at the meeting:

  • Child Find Process
  • The determination of proportionate share of Federal Funds available to serve parentally placed private school children with disabilities.
  • How the consultation process among the LEA and parentally placed private school children will take place.
  • How, where, and by whom special education and related services will be provided.
  • How, if the LEA representatives disagree with the views of the private school officials, how the LEA chose not to adopt the recommendation of the private school officials.

If you are unable to attend, you may call the Student Services Office at 912-449-2091 and we will be happy to discuss the process with you and answer your questions.
